The Battle of Two Wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside all people. He said, “My son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all.

Suatu malam seorang Indian tua menuturkan pada cucunya tentang sebuah pertarungan yang terjadi di dalam diri tiap manusia. Ia berkata “Anakku, pertarungan antaradua ‘serigala’ di dalam diri kita semua”

“One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”

“Yang satu kejahatan. Ia adalah marah, iri, cemburu, sedih, putus asa, tamak, arogan, penyesalan, rasa bersalah, kecewa, rendah diri, bohong, gengsi, sombong, dan egois.”

“The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”

“Satunya kebaikan. Ia adalah bahagia, damai, cinta, harap, tenang, rendah hati, keramahan, kebaikan, empati, kedermawanan, jujur, kasih sayang, dan iman”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf wins?”

Si cucu memikirkannya sebentar kemudian bertanya pada kakeknya, “Serigala mana yang menang?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Si Indian tua menjawab sederhana, “Yang kamu pelihara.”
